Baby Hand in HandOn January 25th, 2003, my new life began with the birth of my daughter. I brought my newborn home to the Madonna House, where we were nurtured, loved, and accepted. I wasn’t sure if my daughter’s father was going to be involved in her life, until a couple months after her birth when he died suddenly. The Madonna House was everything that we needed to get through the difficult time.

As our lives moved forward with buying a house, earning my Master’s Degree, and getting married, I always kept the Madonna House close to my heart, leaning on them for advice and moral support. Being an elementary school teacher, I dedicated my life to helping children. However, frustration with the education system coupled with a desire to make a greater difference in the lives of children led me to a new goal: opening my own childcare center.

A former fellow teacher and I began the process of opening a center in Ludlow. After several months of renovating a beautiful, old building leased through the Diocese of Covington, we opened Mustard Seeds Childcare on January 12th of this year. The name is derived from the bible stories in which mustard seeds are mentioned as one of the smallest seeds in the garden that, when nurtured, sprouts one of the largest plants. Our goal is to plant the seeds of love, knowledge, and hope, one child at a time. We strive to serve the low income population because we believe that every child deserves high quality childcare.

The Madonna House has continued to encourage and believe in me throughout this venture, as well as in all other aspects of my life since my pregnancy more than 6 years ago. Words cannot express my gratitude to Cindy, Carrie, Leighann, Carol, and so many others who donate in some way to the Madonna House. Without your help, I wouldn’t have had the foundation or tools necessary to make Mustard Seeds Childcare a reality.
